Another repost from the old FMF Gearbooks thread, a compound that can give you that larger-than-life presence that can be a real boon to commanders on a battlefield:
LORD BRIAN’S BLESSING
Alchemical Formula
Cost: 39 gc per vial
Description: Said to have been inspired by as well as named after a particularly boisterous military officer known for his overpowering voice and a personal presence that was impossible to ignore, inhaling this alcoholic-smelling compound grants the user a similarly impactful aura. Unfortunately, the aftereffects of using LORD BRIAN’S BLESSING are just as overpowering, though in a completely different way.
Yes, vials of LORD BRIAN’S BLESSING are always labeled in full caps by alchemists. Those who have used the compound before, or been witnesses to its users, know exactly why.
Special Rules: 1d3+1 rounds after inhaling the contents of a vial of LORD BRIAN’S BLESSING and for 1d6+6 minutes afterwards, a living character gains a booming voice and exudes a palpably powerful personal presence that easily dominates the battlefield. During this time, all living characters treat this character’s command range as doubled (If this character gains a doubled command range from another source, their command range for living characters is tripled, not quadrupled).
Once the effects of a dose of LORD BRIAN’S BLESSING have worn off, it unfortunately becomes very apparent that instead of the previous aura of command the user has become shrouded in a distinctly more rank aura, perhaps as a mere side-effect of the vocal exertions LORD BRIAN’S BLESSING had effected earlier. For the next 1d3+1 days, or until the user has had the opportunity to thoroughly bathe and get a change of clothes, an additional die is rolled for all of the user’s Social rolls against living characters, discarding the die with the highest result from the total (Most inns and hosts would similarly prefer not to lodge the character during this time, and will likely even refuse to put them up in the stables, as any horses or other animals present also react negatively to the smell). Similarly, living characters attempting to spot or track the user during this time gain an additional die to their PER rolls, and remove the die with the lowest result.
Brewing Requirements: Alchemy
Ingredients: 1 unit of alchemical stone, 1 unit of alchemical waste (liquid), 1 burrow-mawg adrenal gland, 1 unit of mineral crystals, 1 unit of organic acid
Total Material Cost: 13 gc
Alchemical Formula: Creating LORD BRIAN’S BLESSING requires an alchemy lab and two hours spent combining, cooking and stabilising the ingredients. At the end of this time, the alchemist makes an INT+Alchemy roll against a target number of 14. If the roll succeeds, the alchemist creates one vial of LORD BRIAN’S BLESSING. If the roll fails, one unit of alchemical waste (crystal) is created instead, and the fumes and spatter the mixture gives off during the runaway reaction will impose a penalty of -1 to all skill rolls in the laboratory for 1d3 days or until the alchemist has thoroughly scrubbed their table and glassware (wearing an alchemist’s beard or gas mask also alleviates this penalty during this time, though neighbours might still complain, making cleaning the work area the preferred course of action).
Comments welcome, as usual.
