Geomancer’s Staff [Dedicated Magical Item]

Cost : Usually not for sale.
Skill: Great Weapon
Attack Modifier: -2
POW: 4

Description: This wooden staff is topped with a stone tablet bearing the characteristic jagged runes of the Circle’s wold construct, and bears a tangle of roots at its opposite end. By planting these roots on the ground, a blackclad or warlock of the Circle can draw on the power of Orboros to grant them the ability to cast additional spells with little effort.

Rune Points: 3

Special Rules : When wielded by a blackclad or Circle warlock, a geomancer’s staff is a magical weapon, and no longer has an attack roll penalty. Only blackclads and Circle warlocks can use a geomancer’s staff to cast spells (see below).
When used in melee, a geomancer’s staff has Reach.
In addition to being used as a melee weapon, a blackclad or Circle warlock wielding a geomancer’s staff can forfeit their movement to cast a single spell with COST 3 or less that they know for free and without the need to use a quick action, and may gain additional fatigue or spend fury to enhance this spell as usual. The spell cast this way cannot have RNG Self or CTRL.
After casting a spell using a geomancer’s staff, the staff needs to be cleansed before it can channel the power of Orboros again. This requires a character with Lore (Orboros) 1 to perform a 10-minute ritual that requires no roll but cannot be performed in combat. Alternatively, a Circle warlock with the Resonance: Wold ability can use a free warlock bond slot to bond to a geomancer’s staff and draw off the built-up energy during their Control Phase. This is handled identically to leaching a single point of fury off a warbeast, including the warlock gaining a point of fury in the process.

Morgan’s Note s : Yes, a geomancer’s staff is basically a handheld version of a woldwarden.

A geomancer’s staff requires two hands to wield, both when making melee attacks and when casting spells with the aid of the staff.
The character wielding a geomancer’s staff in melee can spend a feat point to make a trip attack instead of a normal attack with this weapon. If the attack hits, the target character is knocked down instead of suffering damage.
On a critical hit in melee, a living target has a chance to be knocked out by a strike with a geomancer’s staff. If the target suffers damage from the attack, they must make a PHY roll against a target number equal to double the attacker’s STR. If the roll succeeds, the target remains conscious. If the roll fails, the target is knocked out.

Prerequisites: Artificer, Craft (wold 1), Lore (Orboros 2).

Fabrication: The material cost of the parts required to create a geomancer’s staff is 60 gc. The pertinent skill roll for crafting the staff’s vessel is INT+Craft (wold); alternatively, INT+Craft (carpentry) and INT+Craft (stoneworking), whichever is lower, can be used.
Attunement takes 9 hours and requires a successful ARC stat roll against a target number of 15. Inscribing the runes takes three weeks and requires an ARC+Lore (Orboros) skill roll against a target number of 15.

Comments welcome, as usual.
