Effect: While a melee weapon equipped with this rune is powered, it is also considered a shield for the purposes of using the Shield military skill to gain an ARM bonus (see IKRPG, p. 172), though the ARM bonus granted by a fending weapon is equal to the lesser of the character’s Hand Weapon and Shield skill levels.
Additionally, if this rune is installed in a mechanikal Great Weapon, the ARM bonus provided by this rune’s effects is only equal to the lesser of the character’s Shield or half their Great Weapon skill levels, rounded up, as the two-handed stance needed to wield such weapons interferes with the movements required to interpose a shield in the way of incoming attacks.
